Impact of Food Additives on Early Life Microbiome

Accumulating evidence suggested that gut dysbiosis is associated with food additives. In a subgroup of pregnant women recruited to MOMMY, we will conduct a separate investigation into the potential impact of food additives, with a specific focus on emulsifiers. In MOMMY-FOOD, pregnant women in their first trimester will be included. Their overall intake of emulsifier during pregnancy will be assess with a self-administered questionnaire, and their corresponding metagenomic data will be pooled out for analysis.

By observing the contribution of food additives on perinatal health and gut microbiome composition, we can develop more effective interventions and health recommendations to promote healthy growth and development in infants and young children.
